The boldest ones ask for crosswords, a doll or crayons, but the most important thing is a good chat.
Thousands of elderly people end up at nursing homes, for a lot of different reasons. Sometimes, their families can’t provide the proper care in the face of their illnesses, sometimes they’re simply abandoned. Some of them lose all contact with their families and that’s when the work from nursing homes becomes vital.
These elderly folks from Casa Hogar del Adulto Mayor del DIF de Reynosa in Tamaulipas, Mexico, are asking for something really simple, to have someone visiting them. Some are bolder and ask for a soda, a belt or a hat.
A lot of times, they don’t even get a visit for their birthdays, even less during holidays. Grandparents Day was an important day, where everyone was expecting to get a visit from a new friend, just so they could chat and hang out.
Thinking about how they only need companionship and a little attention makes us feel sad. Not everyone has the privilege of still having their grandparents alive, which only makes their request more touching.
But they didn’t only take pictures, they also stood in front of the camera so they could send a video message.
The call from DIF Reynosa was so simple it didn’t even require previous registration. The nursing home only asked for people to “visit them, talk or spend a good moment with them”, during a day as important as Grandparents Day. They also left their contact information in case of any questions.
Do you want to visit them? Here’s their message.
“Interested parties can go to Libramiento Luis Echeverria, no number, in the Aquiles Serdán colony or, for more information, you can call 9224722 and 9226564”
Do it! They’re waiting for you!
