At the age of 26, Sarifah Salmah Tuan Embong managed to convince her husband, Saiful Abdul Satar, 34, to incorporate Nur Elyana, 18, who’d worked for the family for four years, into their marriage.
A Malaysian couple generated a lot of noise a few days ago when they added an unexpected third member to their relationship. The Muslim couple from Johor Bahru, Sarifah Salmah Tuan Embong, 26, and her husband, Saiful Abdul Satar, 34, were missing something in their marriage. The two have always loved each other, but he still had a lot of love to give and she needed a friend and companion in her duties as a wife, as well as someone to give her dear husband more children.
This is why Sarifah Salmah Tuan Embong decided to suggest and convince her husband to also marry Nur Elyana, an 18-year-old woman, who at the time, was the babysitter of the couple’s only child, Amir Malik Saiful, a 7-year-old boy.
The two had loved each other as friends for a long time, and when Sarifah suffered a miscarriage in 2019, in addition to appreciating the support and companionship Nur provided, she also realized that she might be able to give her husband the children that he so badly wanted. This is something of great importance in every Islamic relationship.
“She is not a stranger to me and my husband because she is our babysitter and has lived with us for the past four years (…) In fact, our relationship is not like employer and employee because I already considered her as my own sister (…) My son is also close to her. That’s why I don’t mind accepting Yaa as my husband’s second wife, not any other woman, because I have known her for a long time (…) I discussed this with the family before making the decision and they accepted it after I explained my reasons (…) Yaa accompanied me and my son when my husband was not home due to outstation work (…) So, I think she is a good woman and will be able to carry out her duties as a wife even though she is young.”
– Said Sarifah Salmah Tuan Embong, according to Harian Metro–
For her part, Nur Elyana, who was the family’s babysitter for 4 years, admitted to being extremely surprised when she and her family received the proposal for her to marry Sarifah’s husband, as she also considered him as a friend and employer.
However, the marriage eventually took place at a Religious Affairs Office in Mersing. In Malaysia, polygamy is legal, as long as there is permission from a sharia court.
“I was also surprised when Kak Sa [Safirah’s nickname] voiced her desire to have me marry her husband (…) However, I talked to my family first and Alhamdulillah, they gave their blessings to the marriage (…) This is fate and, as a second wife, I am ready to give in to Kak Sa and will have no problem adjusting because I have lived with her for a long time (…) In fact, I asked Kak Sa to wear a matching color wedding dress because I wanted to celebrate the happy day with her.”
– declared Nur Elyana–
The wedding took place on March 18, 2021, as captured in a three-video series that was uploaded to TikTok. In them, Nur and Sarifah are seen happily wearing the same dress, as they decided to share the same husband from that moment on.
