Cold and hungry, head hanging low by a chain and six puppies nursing from her body, this dog wouldn’t be able to survive any longer. Luckily, a woman saw her and called the authorities.
This two years old dog was a victim of senseless cruelty when she was left to her own devices, without any food or water, next to her puppies in a desolate road on the way to Elphin, Ireland.
Cold and hungry, head hanging low by a chain and six puppies nursing from her body, this dog wouldn’t be able to survive any longer.
But, as some human beings are capable of this level of callousness, others can offer help and save lives.
To this single mother’s luck, a woman walked near the place she was chained, and she called the police, and the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) who quickly started making arrangements to help her.
The dog and her puppies were quickly rescued and taken to the ISPCA’s shelter for an urgent veterinarian evaluation. Luckily, mother and puppies were both healthy.
Nobody knows how long this family was abandoned for, but they’re being painstakingly cared for.
The ISPCA condemned the actions of this dog’s former owner who left her and her puppies in the middle of nowhere without even looking back.
“Abandoning a chained dog, without food, water or shelter, put her life and the puppies at risk. We urge pet owners to neuter their dogs as soon as possible to prevent this sort of situation,” said Hugh O’Toole, from ISPCA.
“I don’t understand how anyone can think that it’s okay to abandon a dog chained to a fence while she feeds her puppies. With the amount of rain we’ve had lately this could have ended in a very different way. I’m glad they were found on time,” he added.
The dog, baptized as Emmy Lou, along with her puppies Billy Ray, Dolly, Dotty, June and Patsy, are under the ISPCA’s care until New Years, when they will be sent to a foster home.
