Just as the man she was with got up to go to the cafe bathroom, Hadia tweeted that the person sitting behind her passed her this message on a napkin. “There will be no second date,” the woman told her followers.
In North American slang, a term has already been adopted to refer to when a person exhibits a couple of behaviors that could signify a challenging personality. They call them “red flags” because they’re the equivalent of someone who has raised a flag that is impossible to ignore…. and they’re just bad news. It can range from showing little empathy towards a puppy while walking on the street to making an unnecessarily aggressive comment towards a stranger.
Like those, there are many others. The problem is that when we’re just getting to know a person, especially if we’re on a date with them, we might be more concerned about how we see ourselves or if we’re being perceived in the right way, and so we may miss one or more of these signs.
This is what seemed to be happening to Hadia, a woman who shared her story about this on Twitter.
What caught the attention of her followers was the first photo with which Hadia started the thread on the social platform. It was a snap of a brown napkin, which could’ve been from a Starbucks. On it was written: “Too many red flags. Run. Be safe, girl”.
It seemed to have come from the man who was sitting behind her in that same cafe. Everything happened very quickly, almost like two secret agents exchanging encrypted messages. What happened was that this man couldn’t help but pay attention to the things Hadia’s date was saying and how he acted. Assuming that for one reason or another she’d failed to pick up the signs, he decided to intervene in a discreet way.
As Hadia recounted later in the post, she was in complete control of the situation.
Even so, she appreciated the concern of this stranger:
I had coffee with a guy yesterday. When he went to the bathroom, the gay guy sitting behind me passed me this note 😂😭😂😭 pic.twitter.com/LgIVsrvlwx

“Ok, I’ll share more… while trying to remain as vague as possible. But we did not see eye to eye on the Da Baby Cara situation (laughing emoji face) and he’s a Kevin Samuels fan. I had to look him up and was immediately taken aback. I recognized the red flags, but I wasn’t in danger, so I stayed, because of course, I had to debate with him. I’m sure my guardian angel was exhausted and was like: “BI***, LEAVE!”

Be that as it may, seeing that a stranger cares about us can be a sign that, even if we’re not on a date with the right person, we’re at the right cafe.
