Social media is divided after two young men showed up at a protest of vegan activists and ate fried chicken in their faces. Some call them “disrespectful” while others call them “heroes”.
As the years go by, more and more people are becoming aware of what they eat and are moving away from traditional diets. Some opt for diets where animal products are excluded for a variety of reasons, ranging from love of animals to health. However, there are still those who claim that giving up meat is a mistake and defend it as best they can.
In that context, a new debate has opened up around the issue after two famous young men on TikTok decided to go and interrupt a vegan protest by eating products from the fast food chain, KFC, right in front of them.
Nick and Bill, who have over 85,000 followers on the social media platform, did a challenge, which, of course, was filmed and uploaded to their account. The idea was to devour fried chicken and hamburgers in front of vegans.
The caption of the video they shared read: “Eating a Zingerbox in front of vegan protesters”. Zinger is an option that KFC offers that features a fried chicken burger, fried chicken tenders, fries and a soda.
After appearing in front of the vegans and starting to devour their food, one of the activists approached them and called one of the young men an “idiot”, asking him if he thought what they were doing was “funny”.
However, the long-haired, blond-haired tiktoker Bill didn’t feel threatened and provoked the activist further by asking, “Dude, you want a bite?”
While the moment was quite unpleasant for the vegans, they stated that they were glad that this TikTok duo had shown up at their event as “they are creating a spectacle” on the issue.
The moment was shared on their platform and Nick and Bill captioned the TikTok “not all superheroes have capes“, along with the hashtags “anti-vegan” and “vegan teacher”. The video currently accumulates three million views, with more than 500,000 likes and 15,000 comments.
The situation received very divided reactions from users. On one hand, some netizens claimed that Tiktokers are free to question vegan activists. “They’re promoting their veganism to the public, so what’s wrong with what these guys are doing? People of freedom…” one person wrote. “If they’re showing us their ideas, we can show them ours,” commented another. A third said: “Not all heroes wear capes, some hold Zinger boxes”.
However, other netizens pointed out that his attitude was totally disrespectful. “This isn’t funny. I’m not even a vegan, but it’s about respecting others,” wrote someone. “I’m not vegan and never will be, but I will never disrespect someone just because we have different views on something,” said another. “They aren’t bothering anyone, and they were nice. Why would you go out of your way to buy food and eat it in their faces and film it?”, commented a third.
This situation has definitely reopened the long-running debate regarding the plant-based diet and the lives of vegans.
