The couple explained that they asked their guests four times if they would be attending the wedding, and they confirmed all four times. «Because you didn’t call us or give us proper notice that you wouldn’t be in attendance, this amount is what you owe us for paying for your seat(s) in advance,» the invoice read.
Marriages are a very special and long-awaited moment for couples who have invested time and money into organizing them. It is an unforgettable moment that the bride and groom look forward to spending with their family and loved ones.
However, there are occasions when some guests, due to force majeure, cannot attend the ceremony. That’s why not all the people that the bride and groom have invited to the celebration are always present.

A couple from Illinois, United States, became so angry after some guests, who had confirmed attendance, didn’t attend the wedding that they charged them the money in order to cover expenses related to the event, according to the New York Post.
Doug Simmons, 44, and his wife, Dedra McGee, 43, were disappointed with those who couldn’t make it to their wedding, so they sent them a bill for $240.

The expenses were related to the money the couple shelled out to host the dinner reception. In fact, the bill that reached those absent specified that it was held at the Royalton Negril Resort & Spa in Jamaica and that it cost $120 for each person.
The groom, Doug, posted a screenshot of the bill on his Facebook page and wrote: «Don’t be offended when I send this invoice to you. It’s gonna look something like this. I’ll send it via email and certified mail… just in case you say you didn’t get the email.»

In addition, the bride and groom attached a note to the invoice to explain why they were charging those guests who didn’t attend the wedding. «This invoice is being sent to you because you confirmed seat(s) at the wedding reception during the Final Headcount. The amount above is the cost of your individual seats,» the document read.
«Because you didn’t call us or give us proper notice that you wouldn’t be in attendance, this amount is what you owe us for paying for your seat(s) in advance. You can pay via Zelle or PayPal. Please reach out and let us know which method of payment works for you. Thank you!» the invoice ended.

The couple was upset because, according to them, they asked all their guests four times if they were going to the wedding because they had to pay in advance. On top of that, they were sad and felt disrespected by those who were absent. «I took it personally,» said the groom.
