«She was very shy. She would sit in the back against the wall. If I didn’t force her to work in a group, she wouldn’t do it. We didn’t have much of a bond, and at one point, she started missing school,» recounted Miriam, who was never able to have biological children because of a fertility problem.

Sometimes friendships between teachers and students go beyond a simple academic relationship and create lifelong bonds. This connection can even go beyond the classroom and become emotional family stories.

This was the case for Miriam, a teacher in Argentina who decided to adopt one of her 16-year-old students after learning that the teenager had ended up in an orphanage, as reported by TN.

Both she and her husband always wanted to have children, but due to a fertility problem that the teacher was diagnosed with, they were never able to fulfill their dream. So, they decided that they would have to adopt to grow their family.

However, Miriam had a hard time convincing her husband, who was still planning to try to have biological children. «As for adoption, I had never thought about it. Then the years kept passing, I was 41, 42, 43, 44 and at 45…. one day, I woke up and looked at Miriam. I told her that we had to do it: ‘let’s move forward’« said Nestor.

Two sons, Ian and Lolo, 7 and 8 years old respectively, who had been abused by their previous families, came into their lives, so both Miriam and Néstor devoted themselves to raising them and giving them affection.

Both of them had to get used to this care since not knowing the children made everything a little more difficult. However, just when they were getting used to it, Camila, one of Miriam’s students, appeared and surprisingly began to miss classes.

«She was very shy, she would sit in the back against the wall. If I didn’t force her to work in a group, she wouldn’t do it. We didn’t have much of a bond and at one point she started to miss school,» the teacher said.

Miriam realized that the teenager started living in a home and that she had too many personal problems to do well in school. Along with that, she found out that a family was going to adopt her, but after encountering a problem, they were no longer interested in her.

After some legal paperwork, the couple decided that they could give Camila the warm home that had always eluded her. «I told Nestor that she was a very good girl and that she wanted us to help her. When Cami found out that we wanted to receive her at home on weekends and accompany her, she took a risk and immediately wanted to leave the home», Miriam said.

However, the process was going to be long because at the beginning the young woman only went to the couple’s home on weekends. The court began to notice that the girl wasn’t having a good time at the home where she was and that she had lost weight, so they decided that the couple should adopt her definitively.

It must be taken into account that many youngsters reach an advanced age and are never adopted by their families since it is much more complicated for the adoptive parents to raise them. Many of these youngsters are rejected, so for Camila, it was the opportunity of a lifetime.

«It isn’t difficult to adopt. The point is to ask yourself with whom you want to become a family, because we can become a family with people of any age. Even though it isn’t wrong to want to do it with a baby, when there are so many children and teenagers who need it, we should rethink it and understand that, if we want to, (…) we can adopt a grown-up child», the teacher concluded.
