«It was Noah’s decision,» Gonzalo has said about the possibility of being able to raise the little boy together with his biological mother. Although the loving relationship lasted five years, it was enough to establish their bond and even for him to give him his last name.
When two people get together and there are children in the mix, things aren’t so simple. You’re not only seeing the person, but also his or her children. At that point, you start to create bonds that can impact the children.
That was the case with Gonzalo Egas, a man who met Wilma Gonzalez. They shared a five-year romance where she had a son from a previous relationship. However, she never expected a father-and-son relationship to blossom between him and her partner’s son.

Through a «modern” concept of family, the little boy’s mother has allowed Gonzalo to be part of her son’s life, so much so that now Noah already calls him dad and carries his last name.
«Being a father is the most important thing that has happened in my life, and I always thank Wilma. She has been super generous in that sense, saying, ‘ok, this man created a relationship with Noah’, which ends up being separate from what we had«, Gonzalo tells the Chilean media LUN.

However, it wasn’t a decision made by him or his mother, Gonzalo assures that they took the little boy’s opinion into account: «It was Noah’s decision. He chose me as his father and that’s what we built the relationship on».
In fact, Gonzalo and Noah’s relationship is so strong that, after assuming the paternity of the child, it was his own son who asked him to take his last name legally after his first day of school.

«He knows that Gonzalo is the dad who really takes care of him, who is with him every day, his real dad (…) I am very grateful to Gonzalo for being a father figure. I love the relationship they have, that they chose each other as father and son. At some point, I wanted to leave the country, and part of the reason I didn’t leave was because of Gonzalo and Noah’s relationship. Currently, the former couple practices «shared parenting», which Noah himself requested, where the child spends a week at each of their homes, where he lives with the current partners of each of his parents.
Although Gonzalo is not his biological father, he assumes custody and paternity as one.
