The actor has invited people to «join» him and his fiancé in adopting a turkey this holiday season instead of eating them like always. «Turkeys are emotional, intelligent and social animals,» he indicated to stop their consumption.

In times where animal lovers and the vegetarian and vegan movement is gaining ground in the world, there are also celebrity faces that join this cause, hoping to stop the consumption of meat in all its forms. This time, Joaquin Phoenix asked people to stop consuming turkey.

After the actor of the “Joker” visited a sanctuary dedicated to the protection of turkeys with his wife, Rooney Mara, they made a call to «adopt these animals» instead of consuming them on dates like Thanksgiving.

With the holiday fast approaching, the couple decided to attend the Farm Sanctuary in Acton, California, where they spent time with many rescue bird lovers who are dedicated to keeping them out of factory farming.

In doing so, both Phoenix and Mara shared their thoughts on turkey advocacy: «Turkeys are emotional, intelligent and social animals. It is chilling that more than 68 million turkeys are brutally slaughtered and eaten during the vacation months alone.»

That’s why the two released a joint statement to show support for the sanctuary-driven «Adopt a Turkey» initiative:

«By adopting a turkey through Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project, you are not only supporting the rescue of animals caught in the brutal factory farming industry, but you are also protesting animal agriculture’s immoral treatment of workers, and its dominating role in accelerating the climate crisis,» Phoenix wrote on social media.

Ultimately, the call was direct, asking to avoid eating this bird during the holidays: «‘This holiday season of giving, join us in adopting a turkey and leaving them off your plates.»

As we know, Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara have been devoted vegans for years, dedicating themselves to promoting a plant-based diet. The couple has attended hundreds of events and marches, where they aren’t afraid to speak their minds.
