In 2015, in Canada, Paul Wolscht, a 46-year-old mechanic, left his wife after 23 years of marriage and their seven children to start a completely different life: he began living as a six-year-old girl under the name “Stetonknee Wolscht.”

He adopted children’s clothing, hairstyles, and behaviors, and says he found a sense of belonging with an older couple who treat him like their “granddaughter,” claiming it works as a form of therapy for his depressive thoughts.

Meanwhile, his wife had to face the emotional and financial impact of the separation alone, as did their children.

The case went viral and sparked debate between those who see it as personal expression and those who consider it extreme.
