María Clara Aguirre Lisboa, 5 years old, was murdered in Brazil in a case that shocked people because of its cruelty. According to the investigation, her mother and stepfather allegedly buried her alive in a pit covered with concrete in the yard of their house.
The body was found about 20 days after her death, and forensic examinations revealed that the girl was still alive at the time she was buried, as she had soil in her airways, in addition to head injuries.
Authorities indicated that the home was already under surveillance due to a history of abuse. Both defendants confessed to the crime and face charges of aggravated homicide and concealment of the body. The case caused outrage because of the violence of the act and the prior warning signs that failed to prevent the tragedy.
