In 2017, in Alabama, USA, Brittany Diggs was kidnapped at gunpoint by Manuel Ali Towns, who forced her into a car and then drove her to several ATMs to withdraw money using her card.

Everything changed when, while inside the trunk, she managed to activate the emergency latch and escape just as the vehicle was leaving a gas station—a moment captured on surveillance cameras.

Thanks to her quick reaction, she got to safety and the attacker was arrested. A year later, in 2018, Towns was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
