Celina Quiñones never imagined that a DNA test would change her life in that way.
In 2006, she married Joseph after dating for just four months. Ten years later, with three children and living in Colorado, she decided to take an ancestry test out of simple genealogical curiosity.
The result left her stunned: Joseph appeared in her own family tree. They were distant cousins, with a common ancestor several generations back, something neither family had ever noticed, not even when both of their grandmothers met at the wedding and “got along well”.
Celina was in shock. She even wondered whether they should separate, whether the marriage they had built still made sense after that discovery. Joseph, on the other hand, took it calmly and did not attach much importance to the matter.
She shared her story on TikTok, and the video exploded: more than 4.4 million views and a wave of comments calling them everything from “disgusting” to staunch defenders of their love.
Today, 17 years after that wedding, Celina and Joseph are still married, and their children already talk about it as something completely normal in their family.
