Phillip Ormerod was 102 years old and walked nearly half a kilometer, two or three times a week, to the same old pub in Cwmbran, South Wales.

On the night of August 1, he climbed the three steps onto the stage at the Crow’s Nest just to ask the band SuperHans to turn the volume down. According to witnesses, he was pushed so hard that he did not fall down the stairs: he went straight past them and landed on the floor below. He fractured his hip and died shortly afterward in the hospital.

His son Robert says that his father had diagnosed dementia, that some saw him as an eccentric character for continuing to go to the bar at his age, and that the pub “has changed a lot” since the days when he himself grew up on that same street. A 56-year-old man from Llanelli was arrested for assault and remains under investigation while free. The family is only asking for justice for a man who, according to everyone, was charming even though he was confused.
