When it comes to motels, the people who know all the secrets and strange stories are the workers themselves. They’re there. They are the source of the stories. So, let’s hear what they have to tell us…

One: “I worked at a motel for 6 years, and the best anecdote I have is about a guest who removed the shower head cover, pooped, and put it back on. Disgusting!”, by akr0ma1•.

Two: “A guy told us a pretty funny story about a married guest who comes to this motel to have some fun with a trans woman (who was not his wife, of course). It wasn’t the first time he had come to this motel (in every sense of the word). But this time, while he was in the room, a furious woman showed up at the motel entrance screaming and shrieking. It turned out to be his wife. The poor husband, hearing the commotion, and out of fear (I don’t want to sound cliché, but it’s a bad idea to mess with a Brazilian woman like that), jumped out of the second-floor window naked to escape his wife’s wrath. The story goes that he still wanders around, half injured, naked, and guilty for underestimating his wife’s knowledge of technology and men. It turns out she had discreetly installed an app on his phone to track him via GPS…”, by _Bor_ges_.

Three: “My mother worked as a housekeeper and has terrible stories; they had about two minutes to clean the rooms because there was usually someone waiting in the garage. When couples left their rooms, the men and women would go in to clean and also had to report to the front desk what had been consumed. The men had a habit of urinating into beer bottles and cans so they looked full. The only thing that took longer to deal with was when people filled the jacuzzis with foam and it spread all over the room; aside from that, everything was done in a rush”, by kk_katchadourian.

Four: “I once did a one-day trial at a motel when I was unemployed and desperate. The job was a bit of everything: I had to work the front desk, help the housekeeper clean the rooms, carry food trays, etc. I was completely horrified when I walked into a room and saw the sheets covered in blood, more than 20 packets of white powder, and about 10 condoms scattered around the room. It’s not that it’s funny, it’s too much for an 18-year-old kid who was easily shocked 🤣”, by jinete musical83.

Five: “In the middle of the night, a naked guy peeked around the corner near the front desk. He said he had gotten locked out of his room. Laughing, I asked him what had happened. Turns out he sleepwalks and woke up in the hallway knocking on his own door, waiting to be let in”, by Br1zix.

Six: “We used to let a group hold their swingers party at our motel. We had a large building for weddings, birthdays, and funerals, so they used it as a party hall. Cameras and photos were not allowed. Every month had a different theme. They were very fun people and, literally, the most respectful and cleanest guests we ever had”. In the thread, someone asked this story: “You mentioned “used to”, did something happen?”. And they continued: “They got their own building, so basically they were able to move on to the next level without any trouble or motel rules. Also, the town was starting to find out and some of the motel employees (who were cheating and sleeping with guests) had moral issues with this group of such nice and awesome people. So to spare themselves the hassle of the nonsense, they found their own space and moved about 35 minutes away. Great people. The owner said I could join if I wanted after leaving the motel (we stayed in touch because he asked me out and I considered saying yes and also going to the parties, but my life got much more complicated and veered away from something like that)”, by Hetaria-ad-scientiam.

Seven: “We had a guest pull a gun on his girlfriend once. When a guest dials 911 from their room, our systems go CRAZY. We couldn’t use the phones. They got locked up and flashed red and the phone screen said “ROOM 240 — 911. I called security on our walkie, but security was just one guy who was also our maintenance tech. He called a few minutes later saying he heard a woman scream when he knocked on the door and she said he had a gun. He backed off and told us to call 911 again. He was scared, but safe on the other side of the building. I dialed from my cell phone, and so did my coworker. Finally, the police arrive and it’s all lights and confusion. I told them which room to go to and they handled everything. Fortunately, the man did not fire the gun. They took him away and I never saw what he or his girlfriend looked like”, by Sometimes_Vowel.

Eight: “It’s not my story or the craziest one, but one of my coworkers got a call at the front desk from a room saying their food had gotten stuck in the microwave. The desk clerk went up to the room to take a look and help, and it turned out the guest had put the food in the safe. It took some convincing to make him understand it wasn’t the microwave”, by ninjaaa_momnkey.

Nine: “I worked at a budget motel in a ski town. My shifts consisted of routine tasks like changing light bulbs, unclogging pipes, etc. I got a call from one of the housekeepers asking me to go to a room because “the lighting was weird”. I asked her to explain and she told me the room just looked strange. Okay then… I got to the room and, sure enough, with the lights on and the curtains closed, the room was bathed in a strange yellow glow. I looked at the ceiling light expecting the bulb to be loose or the fixture to be shorting out, and instead found that the glass shade around it was filled to the brim with urine. Someone had unscrewed the three screws holding it in place, urinated into the shade, and (I imagine) carefully put it back. The worst part was that the bulb had been submerged in urine and had heated up. In short: A man changes the ambient lighting of his lodging with urine”, by crndwg.

Ten: “I have a friend who owns a small motel near a highway. I used to hang out with him and chat some nights. One night, he got a call from a guest who had heard a loud crash in the room next door. He checked the computer and saw that the room was empty. My friend and I went to see what was going on. We knocked on the door, but no one answered. He opened the door and there was a cat. It had knocked over a lamp and smashed it. It was very affectionate and came right over. We took it to the front desk and checked the room records. The person who had stayed there before had abandoned the cat when they left three days earlier. They were already on the other side of the country when we called, and said they were not coming back for it. My friend took in the cat and now it’s the motel cat. It roams all over the property and takes care of mice and other critters. It even has its picture on the wall as one of the “employees”. I don’t understand why housekeeping didn’t see it when they cleaned the room. We think the vacuum scared the cat and it hid somewhere. Even so, it was a rotten thing for the former owner to leave the cat there”, by Wthickgyal.

Eleven: “When I worked as a security guard at a motel, I saw three people climb onto the roof. One of them knelt down while the other two pointed guns at his head, as if they were going to execute him. We called the police, but all three went back inside before they arrived. The police went into the room to see what was going on and it turned out the idiots were filming an amateur movie and had used our motel as a set without permission. The guns they had were toys, with the orange tips covered with black electrical tape, by CanaDoug420.

Bonus, from a motel guest: “Once I realized that the couple in the car ahead of me in line were taking a Golden Retriever into their room”, by elpollodiablo77.
