When the fire began devouring the school van, any adult’s instinct would have been to run in the opposite direction. He did the opposite: he went inside. One by one, he pulled eight children trapped among the smoke and burning metal to safety, without thinking about his own safety or waiting for someone older to arrive.
There had been no prior training or protocol to follow, only the decision to act in the exact second when others froze. Years after that day, his story continues to circulate because it reminds us of something simple: courage does not wait until a certain age to appear. Sometimes it only needs someone willing to move when everyone else remains still.
