Avory Woolery is 11 years old and was at the pool of an apartment complex in Lexington, Kentucky, when he saw something no one else seemed to notice: a motionless man at the bottom of the water.
“My adrenaline kicked in”, he said. No one was moving, so he put on diving goggles and dove in. He managed to bring him to the surface and drag him to the edge, where a friend of the man began performing CPR while someone else called 911.
The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, with a chance at life he would not have had without the boy’s brave action. His father, Sean Woolery, said he could not be prouder: someone thanked him for teaching his son how to swim.
