12 years standing. Not a moment sitting, not a night lying on the ground. That is what Daulat Giri Ji Maharaj, a Hindu devotee from India, has been doing. He went viral when a video circulated showing how volunteers clean his legs, severely swollen from more than a decade of continuous physical strain. 😮

His story began when he decided to leave university to begin an extreme ascetic vow: never to sit again or lie down on the ground. He sleeps leaning on a special structure. All under the belief that this sacrifice will allow him to see the god Mahadev, also known as Shiva. The buildup of fluids in his limbs is just one of the visible consequences of years of an effort that the human body simply was not designed to endure. 🙏

The most shocking part of all: after twelve years, Daulat Giri still has not reached his mystical goal. And he remains standing. 👀
