Ryan Hart is 14 years old and just wanted to finish his roast beef sandwich at an Arby’s in Jackson, Michigan.
When he bit into something hard and rubbery, he spat it out. What he saw left him frozen: a piece of human finger, nearly one centimeter thick and more than two centimeters long. Minutes earlier, an employee had cut herself with the meat slicer, left her station without telling anyone, and her coworkers kept assembling orders without knowing that a piece of her finger was making its way through the food.
His mother called 911 and took him for blood tests; he was prescribed medication as a precaution, although he said he felt fine. Arby’s apologized, halted food production, and disinfected the entire restaurant. And as impossible as it may sound, it is not the first time: similar cases had already occurred at a TGI Friday’s chain in 2006 and at a frozen yogurt shop in 2005.
