Juan Sebastián is 14 years old. 🇨🇴
In Neiva, Colombia, he noticed something no one else seemed to see: deaf children were left out every time a group went birdwatching. Birdsong, that magical part of the experience, simply didn’t exist for them. So he decided to build something that didn’t exist yet.
Together with a teacher from his school, he built a portable prototype using hard-to-find parts and a small budget, capable of capturing a bird’s song and translating it into a unique vibration pattern felt in the arm. He called it “Alas de Inclusión”, and turned sound into something that can also be touched.
In 2026, Action for Nature gave him third place in the International Young Eco-Hero Award, among 16 young people selected from around the world. Before this project, he had already led tree-planting and cleanup campaigns in his city. He is still only 14 and has already changed the way nature can be experienced. 🌿
