Three hours. That was the exact amount of time a 16-year-old girl remained trapped inside a blue Ford Fiesta, overturned upside down in a flooded ditch in Iwade, England, beside the bodies of her two friends.
According to testimony given at the coroner’s court, 17-year-old Adam Dudzinski lost control on a bend on the night of January 3. The car fell into the water. Sixteen-year-old Chloe-Ann Naylor tried to keep her own head above the surface while Adam repeatedly said “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry”. A little tap from Chloe on her leg was what gave the survivor the courage to unbuckle her seat belt. Shortly afterward, Chloe stopped responding.
The emergency calls never connected. It was the girl’s father who, tracking her location through the Live 360 app, found the partially submerged vehicle. By the time emergency services arrived, Adam and Chloe had already died. She was hospitalized and later discharged.
