Sidney was 16 years old, was on palliative medication, and was living out his final days in the garden of his home in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by the person who loved him most. But on Monday, April 20, 2026, an Amazon delivery driver got out of her van, picked him up from the driveway, and left. Everything was captured on a neighbor’s doorbell camera.
What followed is difficult to process. The driver took Sidney the next day to Grandview Animal Hospital, then to Wayside Waifs, then to Belton Animal Control, and finally to KC Pet Project, where veterinarians determined that the cat was too weak. They euthanized him before Marsha Reeves, his owner, could locate him. Sidney died among strangers. Without his family. Without a goodbye.
Reeves filed a report with the Kansas City Police Department, whose investigation remains open. Amazon issued a public apology and said it was “working to remedy the situation”, but so far it has not confirmed any specific disciplinary action against the employee. Reeves is demanding that both the delivery driver and the company be held publicly accountable. 😓💔
