Ye Meng Yuan was only 16 years old when she survived the impact of Asiana Airlines Flight 214 in San Francisco.
On July 6, 2013, the plane crashed during landing and Ye was ejected from the aircraft. She lay near the wreckage, in an area covered by the foam firefighters used to control the fire.
Amid the emergency, two rescue vehicles drove over her. The San Mateo County coroner concluded that Ye was still alive when she suffered those injuries, although a subsequent report by local authorities presented a different version.
The San Francisco Fire Chief publicly apologized to the family. Her parents sued the city over their daughter’s death, but withdrew the lawsuit years later.
