At the Salta Public Maternal and Children’s Hospital, a newborn cried alone, shift after shift.

He had come into the world with intestinal failure that required constant care. His parents abandoned him. The courts declared him eligible for adoption.

Then the search began. In the entire province, there were only 17 families registered to adopt. Almost all of them asked for healthy babies. Judge Claudia Güemes issued a nationwide public call. No one responded.

Meanwhile, someone was already caring for him without being asked. Teresita, a hospital nurse, heard him crying during her shifts and stayed extra time, even though it was not her obligation. As the days went by, that extra time became a habit. The habit became love.

When she learned that no one was applying for the baby, she went with one of her sisters to ask how to adopt him.

Judge Güemes did not hesitate: “This could not be more perfect”, she thought when she found out. After meeting her in person, she confirmed it in no uncertain terms: “The love she has for the child is moving. She is the ideal mother for him”.

They named the baby Serafín. He was placed in pre-adoptive care surrounded by his new family: Teresita’s parents and her five siblings, all present to welcome him.

No one wanted him because he was sick. A nurse wanted him because he was hers.
