Kieran Moïse, 17, from Huntsville, Alabama, did not cut his hair for six years. Not for fashion, but because he had a plan.
He knew that when he entered the United States Air Force Academy in the fall of 2021, he would have to shave his head completely. He decided that instead of ending up on the floor of a barbershop, that haircut would serve a greater purpose.
On May 29, at a public event at a brewery in his city, they cut his 19 inches of hair and he donated it to Children with Hair Loss, which makes free wigs for children who lost theirs to cancer.
Behind the gesture was a name: Josh Quist, his childhood friend, who died of cancer in eighth grade.
In his memory, Kieran launched a campaign for St. Jude Hospital and raised more than $39,000 dollars. Sometimes generosity does not wait for the perfect moment: it takes advantage of the one that was already about to arrive.
