Ghislain Quiroz Carrizo lived just meters from Mariana Sepúlveda’s house in Conchalí. His children played with her siblings. And for 18 years, while the family searched for answers, no one gave him a second look. “
“We didn’t have much to do with them, but our children—the younger ones—played with the children of the person who is taking the blame. He had two children and a partner; his brother lived there too; there were many people in that house. But we didn’t really interact with them. We would see each other when I was leaving for work, or sometimes I would watch my son play soccer in the passageway; he played with his son, but there wasn’t really a conversational relationship”, Mariana’s father admitted, and added the strangest part: “I don’t remember them ever coming over to offer us support, as the other neighbors did, when we would gather in the passageway many times to hold candlelight vigils and pray, but I don’t remember them ever coming over”.
On Sunday, September 6, 2026, Ghislain Quiroz Carrizo voluntarily entered the 5th Police Station and confessed: he said he killed Mariana in 2008, buried her body on his property, and in 2013 dug it up and made it disappear in the trash. Prosecutor Marcelo Cabrera said there is already evidence corroborating part of the account, and on September 8 the discovery of a bone sample in his room came to light, although it has not yet been confirmed whether it belongs to her.
But Luis Sepúlveda, Mariana’s father, does not believe the story is complete. He put it this clearly on television: “if this is real, if my daughter is there and he did it, he didn’t do it alone”. His distrust is fueled by a detail that haunts him: Quiroz’s son recently approached one of his own children, hugged him, and asked him for forgiveness. “There was planning behind this. So it’s not a matter of me digging a hole and burying a person. The family must have known“.
And he concluded: “The only thing I care about is that the police do their job properly, that this comes to an end and that we can be at peace, find our daughter”.
