In a desperate attempt to get away from the conflict, he jumped from the railing while the boat was moving.

A day of partying at the Peñol-Guatapé reservoir in Colombia ended in a heartbreaking scene for Alexander Avendaño Varela, 22, who, in the middle of an argument aboard a tourist boat, was cornered against the railing while some of those present warned that he did not know how to swim.

Moments later he fell into the water. He desperately tried to stay afloat, flailing his arms and calling for help while dozens of people watched from the boat.

No one was wearing life jackets and no one came to his aid, and he disappeared beneath the surface. Days later, divers found his body in the depths of the reservoir.
