Jonathan Sia was 23 years old and one week away from graduating from university.
Instead, he ended up hospitalized in the Philippines due to complications from a kidney disorder he had been suffering from for some time. When his heart began to fail and the doctors were preparing for a code blue, something made him open his eyes. His mother claims she saw a light and a hand holding her son’s, while he smiled without saying a word. With the strength he had left, he took a pen and wrote on a piece of paper: “Jesus is real”.
His father, Joel Sia, later said that this was Jonathan’s last conscious act before resuscitation efforts could no longer do anything more. Those who knew him speak of a young man who prayed from childhood, supported his friends, and even from his hospital bed spoke with doctors and nurses about faith. For his family, those three words were not a farewell, but a promise he chose to leave them before departing.
