In 2014, Ashley Gabrielle Huff, a 23-year-old woman, spent nearly a month in jail after police in Georgia mistook dried SpaghettiOs residue on a spoon for methamphetamine.

It all began during a traffic stop. The officers found a spoon with a residue they considered suspicious. A rapid test came back positive for drugs, although this type of test has drawn criticism for its frequent errors. Huff insisted from the very beginning that it was simply pasta. But she was detained anyway. She was arrested, lost her job, missed her son’s birthday

While she remained behind bars, a laboratory analysis confirmed that she was right. It was not methamphetamine. It was food residue.
