Yogesh Ramajinappa was 24 years old, worked as a delivery driver, and had taken his motorcycle to a workshop in the Sampigehalli neighborhood of Bengaluru, India, on March 25, 2024. Murali, a friend who worked at that vehicle service center, was waiting for him there.
What followed was a prank that in any other context would have ended in laughter. Murali took the hose of an air compressor, first pointed it at Yogesh’s face and then, without anyone stopping him, inserted it into his rectum. The pressurized air did the rest: it ruptured his colon and other internal organs.
Yogesh died two days later, on March 27, without doctors being able to reverse the damage. Police opened a case for culpable homicide under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Murali. Yogesh was originally from Vijayapura and lived with his grandmother in Bengaluru — a simple routine, going to get his motorcycle repaired, became the last afternoon of his life.
