Carlos Adonis Ramos-Erazo, 24, was driving at 75 miles per hour in a 55 zone when a Lake County deputy pulled him over. He insisted he was in a hurry because he urgently needed to get to a bathroom. The officer did not fully believe him, and when he approached the window to open the door from the inside, Ramos-Erazo stepped on the accelerator and fled, striking the officer’s arm with the car.
The chase ended at his own home, where he tried to hide inside. Officers subdued him with a Taser and put him in the patrol car headed to the county jail. It was right there, locked in the back seat, that he lost the control he had so desperately wanted to avoid losing since the first traffic light.
He ended up facing charges of fleeing, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer. The urgency that led him to speed ended up being resolved in the worst possible way, minutes after he had been handcuffed.
