She was 25 and had been trying to get pregnant for some time without success.
To find the cause, doctors performed a hysterosalpingography, an X-ray examination using contrast that allows them to see the shape of the uterus and check whether the fallopian tubes are open.
The image showed something unusual: her uterus was narrower and more elongated than normal, tilted to the left, and shaped somewhat like a banana. In addition, only the left fallopian tube was visible, and it was functioning properly. On the right side, no second part of the uterus or other fallopian tube was observed.

The diagnosis was a unicornuate uterus, a condition a person is born with that occurs when one side of the uterus does not fully develop during the mother’s pregnancy.
According to Radiopaedia, some people with this condition may have a small part of the uterus on the side that did not develop and may also have congenital kidney abnormalities.

The patient’s identity was not disclosed, as this is a clinical case presented for medical and educational purposes.
