A skull, a complete leg, a hand, and a face reconstructed with human skin kept as if it were a museum piece. That was what Hungarian police found in the home of a 30-year-old man in Budapest, arrested on June 17 after a report identified him as a hoarder of human remains.

The suspect worked as a hospital orderly, and from there, according to the investigation, he stole parts from corpses. He also allegedly entered abandoned cemeteries in Hungary and Slovakia to obtain more pieces. In his home they also found bones inside a suitcase and a heart in a jar whose origin — human or animal — forensic experts are still analyzing.

During questioning he confessed something even more disturbing: he prepared food with those remains to eat them himself, and shared his hobby with relatives and close friends. Police describe him as “an enthusiast of anatomy and pathology” who likes to dissect animals. Now, forensic experts are examining each seized remain to determine its true origin.
