Four people were arrested in Pensacola, Florida, as part of an investigation into thefts at stores and shopping malls. The case drew attention not only because of the allegations, but also because of the nickname that began circulating on social media, The Babyhair Bandits.
The name arose from the group’s visual signature, especially the highly defined baby-hair hairstyles seen in the police photographs. That detail made many users remember the case not only because of the theft, but also because of the detainees’ distinctive aesthetic.
Those involved were identified as Michael Bowie, Kevin Pittman, Jatoria Archie, and Tevara Bonner. Authorities link them to coordinated thefts of merchandise valued at more than 750 dollars and to the alleged use of devices to evade security systems. The case still has to proceed through the courts.
