40% of people would save their dog before a human, and science explains why

Northeastern University confirmed it with 240 people: when faced with a scene of violence, a puppy and a baby generated more empathy than a 30-year-old adult. 🐶 Psychologist Manuela Pérez-Chacón, president of the Association of Psychologists and Professionals of High Sensitivity, explains that it is not about species but about defenselessness: our brain responds with greater emotional intensity to those it perceives as vulnerable and unable to defend themselves. Animals, since they cannot speak or justify themselves, trigger that alarm almost automatically. Added to that is the fact that bonds with pets offer something that few human relationships guarantee: constant affection, without judgment and without betrayal. It is not that you care less about people — it is that your brain, evolutionarily, protects the defenseless first. 🧠
