Ramazan Yilmaz, 40, a father of two, went to a private clinic in Bursa, Turkey, simply because he had a toothache. He ended up in the emergency room at Uludağ University Hospital with an implant screw lodged in the area where the brain and cerebrospinal fluid are located.
According to his testimony, the dentist, identified in reports only as A.D. and with 24 years of claimed experience, insisted on placing the implant manually because the automatic instrument was malfunctioning. Ramazan heard a cracking sound in his bone and mentioned it at the time. He was told it was normal. The screw continued advancing until it pierced the maxillary bone and reached behind the eye.
The professional took him to a local hospital and, according to Ramazan’s account, fled the scene. Before going into surgery, he said goodbye to his children because doctors warned him that he could lose his life. The operation lasted hours, but he managed to recover. He now faces a lawsuit because the dentist refuses to refund his money and claims it was all a “medical complication”.
