David Parkes was found guilty. The 61-year-old social worker failed to ensure the welfare of the 84 dogs he kept at the family home in Tickhill.

Prosecutors described a house heavily contaminated with urine and feces, where garlic was used in an attempt to control fleas and parasites. Veterinarians found five dogs to be critically underweight. Parkes claimed he worked up to 80 hours a week and that his wife and son were responsible for their care, but veterinary records identified him as the owner.

His wife and son had already pleaded guilty to the same offenses. The RSPCA reported that one of the dogs had to be euthanized due to persistent health problems and that the others were rehomed.
