Dario da Conceição was 61 years old, a pastor and public official in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. He was also the son-in-law of a 91-year-old woman who was bedridden and dependent on care from her own family.
The family had installed a camera in her room for a simple reason: to accompany and protect her. Whenever Dario’s wife and son went to church, he stayed home with her. It was precisely during those moments, according to the investigation, that he allegedly sexually abused the elderly woman, taking advantage of her health condition and the trust the family placed in him.
The suspect’s own son was the one who reviewed the recordings and discovered what had happened in that room. He did not hesitate, took the footage to the police, and reported his father. Dario was arrested shortly afterward, while the family tries to process the fact that the same man who was supposed to care for the grandmother was the one who hurt her the most.
