But Royal Mail sent it anyway, and a manager named Sean Milligan replied on official paper, gently explaining that dodging stars on the way to heaven is no easy task, but that the delivery had been made without any problems.
The boy kept that reply in his pocket for weeks. He told his mother that his dad had really received his letter. She posted it online, and the story was shared more than 250,000 times. No one was under any obligation to reply to a boy they had never met. Someone did anyway, and that was enough to give him back, if only for a moment, the certainty that his father was still there.
