José de Abreu is 80 years old. Carolynne Junger, his wife, is 28. There is a 52-year age difference between them, and they have been married for seven years, and the Brazilian actor is already tired of explaining the same thing over and over.
When asked about his partner’s age, José responds with a phrase that sums up his philosophy: “We don’t ask each other our age. That doesn’t exist”. To him, the criticism is simple prejudice, the same prejudice faced by so many couples with similar age differences. Even Amora Mautner, the first person he told about the relationship, was shocked when she calculated the years: “My God, let’s see how long this lasts”, she told him. Seven years later, the relationship remains strong.
Regarding turning 80, José was also honest: he acknowledges that his body no longer responds the same way, that he gets more tired when walking during his trips, but he claims to have an iron-clad constitution. Age, he says, is just a number that society insists on turning into someone else’s problem.
