In July 2022 in Spain, Salvador, an 85-year-old retiree, became trapped by his hand and foot when the doors of a Renfe train suddenly slammed shut.
Unfortunately, the safety systems failed, the train started moving, and it dragged him along the platform before the horrified eyes of witnesses. He lost 4 fingers and suffered multiple rib fractures.
After 2 surgeries and four months of agony, Salvador died. Now, his family is fighting a legal battle against the operator, which seeks to blame the elderly man for “recklessness”.
The most outrageous part is that the driver never noticed that he was carrying a man beneath the cars. The safety system, designed not to move forward if something obstructs the door, simply did not work.
