Ada Keating is 98 years old. More than seven decades ago, she was a nurse, the kind who holds a stranger’s hand in their worst moment. She never stopped holding her son’s.

In 2016, Tom, 80, had to move into the Moss View nursing home in Liverpool because he needed care that she could no longer provide on her own. Tom never married. He always lived with his mother, first with his father Harry, who has since passed away, and with his sisters. A year later, Ada made a decision no one expected: she packed her bags and moved into the same nursing home.

Today Ada says good morning and good night to Tom, just as she did all her life. Philip Daniels, the home’s manager, says it’s impossible not to be moved when seeing them together. Because there are bonds that neither age, nor illness, nor eighty years of distance can break.
