Wilson is 10 years old and had gone 301 days in a row without missing a lesson on the Duolingo app.

An unexpected hospitalization kept him from the routine he had worked so hard to build. While recovering at home, he wasn’t thinking about video games or resting: he was thinking about his broken streak. His mom, who uses the name Sunny Chaos on X, wrote a message asking the ‘green owl’ to restore what her son had lost because he was sick.

Duolingo responded within hours. Not only did it restore all 301 days intact: it added gems and a Streak Shield, the shield that protects his progress for a week. The company confirmed that Wilson is one of those children who learn chess, music, Spanish, and math just for fun. His story garnered more than 15 million views, and even adult users tried to ride the wave by asking for the same favor for hangovers — Duolingo, with humor, told them no.
