Gavin Keeney heard a splash. The 10-year-old had just gotten out of the pool and was on the porch when he saw his mother, Lori, sink during a seizure. A home security camera captured his reaction. He jumped into the water, pulled her to the steps, and kept her head above water for more than a minute.

Gavin’s grandfather then jumped in to help. Lori, who has epilepsy and is prone to seizures, said they had started the morning with a swim and that the episode scared her more than ever. The Kingston Police Department recognized Gavin with an award for his bravery. Lori called him her hero and her “guardian angel”.
