Gracie was born without front legs, and that was enough for her to be abandoned outside a veterinarian’s office in Georgia, United States, covered in maggots and on the brink of death.
The Mostly Mutts shelter took her in when she was barely a puppy and saved her life, but getting around remained a problem that money couldn’t solve. Wheelchairs for dogs are extremely expensive, and none would fit such a small body. That’s when Dylan appeared, a volunteer who was only 12 years old. He looked at the Lego pieces in his home and thought they might work. He assembled, adjusted, and reassembled them until he created a structure that fit Gracie and grew along with her.
It took her a couple of weeks to get used to it, but afterward she ran, played, and explored like any other dog. When she finished growing, the Turney family made her a permanent wheelchair. Today she lives on a farm, happy and surrounded by other dogs, thanks to a boy who decided that a disabled puppy deserved another chance.
