Ingrid del Carmen Barrera Rantul, 53, was found dead inside her home in Loncoche, in the La Araucanía region of Chile, with multiple stab wounds. What took days to come to light was worse than the crime itself: her own 17-year-old daughter had planned everything.

The teenager agreed to pay approximately 60 dollars (60 thousand Chilean pesos) to a friend of her boyfriend to carry out the murder. She herself left a window of the house open to make it easier for him to get in. The three defendants — the daughter, the boyfriend, and the material perpetrator — are 17 years old and are schoolmates.

The Prosecutor’s Office directly classified the act as contract killing. The motive, according to the investigation led by prosecutor Ghislaime Durán: the mother opposed her daughter being with that boy.

While the arrests were not public, the girl’s father, José Coronado Muñoz, spoke to the cameras without knowing his daughter’s role and called her his princess. The daughter will be formally charged with parricide.

La Araucanía regional prosecutor Roberto Garrido confirmed that the three teenagers have acknowledged different degrees of participation in the events.
