A night of celebration ended in an accident that could have been fatal. Kristin Sargent, a 21-year-old student at the University of Georgia, was dancing on a sofa beside a window when she lost her balance, went through the window, and fell from the eighth floor.
The scene seemed like something out of a nightmare: the young woman landed in the pool area on a lower level of the building and, against all odds, survived the fall. She was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries and is recovering.
A 911 call captured the desperation of a friend who had just witnessed the accident and didn’t know if Kristin was alive.
Investigators are now trying to determine how the accident could have happened and whether the window’s safety mechanisms worked properly.
