Hannah Driscoll thought her son was still playing downstairs.
But before 8 on a Sunday in Idaho, the 3-year-old opened the back door and went outside barefoot. He wanted to visit his grandmother; his mom had told him it was still too early. Security cameras recorded his escape and his arrival, almost 800 meters later.
Driscoll knew something had happened when she received a call from her own mother: the little boy was at her house and safe. Relief was followed by guilt, she said, and she decided to share the video to remind other families how quickly a child can move. After the scare, the family decided to improve the home’s security, though they didn’t say how. The adventure ended at Grandma’s house; the lesson was more serious.
