Rebecca Hay was 22 when the sky turned to fire.
On May 22, 2016, Rebecca, from Northampton, was traveling in a hot-air balloon that collided with high-voltage power lines. The balloon landed in Earls Barton. The 33.000-volt shock burned more than 20 % of her body. She spent months receiving wound care and skin grafts; her mother washed her, and Brett, her partner, tended to her wounds. She asked if she was going to die.
Then came PTSD and bipolar I disorder. She organized what she had been through in a journal, and her notes are taking shape as a memoir. Today, at 32, she travels around Europe in a camper van with Brett and her son Harley. The pain is still there, but Rebecca doesn’t wait until she feels well to live. She wants someone to read her story and think: “Someone else understands”.
