On Saturday, September 5, shortly before 11 in the morning, she was attending as a spectator the first bull run of the patron saint festivities in Aýna, Albacete. According to mayor Juan Ángel Martínez, who spoke to Cadena SER, the woman was outside the protective barriers, in the area known as Las Cuevas. She remained still next to the fence as the herd passed by. But at some point she started running, and one of the bulls veered off and charged her into a wall.

Medical services treated her at the scene and a medical helicopter was dispatched, but she died from the severity of her injuries before reaching the heliport. Elsewhere along the same route, a man in his 60s suffered a goring wound to the arm and survived. The town council suspended the rest of that day’s festivities in honor of Our Lady Saint Mary of the Heights.
